A LOOK AT SOME of the ITEMS IN OUR 2014 LIVE AUCTION!

A very generous donation and another record . . .

Friday evening, the large banquet room at the Atlantica Oak Island Resort and Conference Center on the shore of Mahone Bay was filled to capacity. Indeed there was a waiting list as the patrons sat down for the 12th annual MICA Gala Dinner and Auction. The GDA is the major fundraising event for MICA and when Chair John Meisner opened his remarks, he mentioned that over a million dollars has been raised so far by MICA since its inception over ten years ago.

The money has gone to good use, with MICA, along with its partners the Province of Nova Scotia and the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg acquiring twelve islands and island properties in Mahone Bay over the years.

In his remarks at the dinner, Mr. Meisner recounted the major accomplishments during the past year, which included finalizing the acquisition of Bella Island, one of the more beautiful islands in the Bay, the completion of the purchase of the lots on Masons Island along with Little Duck Island, purchased in a tax sale.

The surprise announcement of the evening was that an agreement had been signed for the very generous donation of Goat Island, a pretty little island near the mouth of Mahone Bay Harbour, by John McLennan and family. This news brought a very enthusiastic round of applause.

The dinner drew a record crowd, and the number of corporate supporters has reached new heights, providing a solid base from which MICA can continue on its mission of saving the islands and shoreline of Mahone Bay in their natural state for conservation and enjoyment by future generations.

The evening was topped off with a live auction of many wonderful items generously donated by MICA supporters. And the Chef Konrad was brought into the room to receive a round of applause for providing a delicious dinner.

Sincere and hearty thanks were offered to the GDA Committee, GDA Co Chairs Brom Hart and Georg Ernst, the artists and donors, the corporate supporters, the auction night volunteers and to all those attending the event.

MICA is very pleased to report that the financial results from the evening produced another record, funds of which will be applied to future island and shoreline acquisitions.

Thank you,
MICA Directors
