This year's event turned out to be another exciting auction with an incredible selection of art and other talents donated by our supporters. Wonderful auction items were donated and helped raise $22,500!

The Art Auction Dinner took place at the Oak Island Resort, Spa & Convention Centre, Western Shore and guests enjoyed music by Laurie McNeill. The evening included the Personal Treasures room, new last year, which is a Cash 'n Carry sale of personal items from people's homes - china, crystal, antiques, jewelry, mall artistic items or family heirlooms. The Silent Auction of delightful items from local businesses and individuals, ran from 5:30 to 8:30 pm and the Live Auction of works by local artists began at 8:30 pm with auctioneer Dean Manning.
Our raffle prize this year was a treasure chest filled with 200 loonies (Spanish gold!), the prized treasure of Captain Kidd, Jr! The Captain (MICA director Dale Rafuse) who was MC for the evening and his first mate circulated in the audience, in full pirate dress.
The event was sold out and was attended by Finance Minister Michael Baker, Minister of Community Services Judy Streatch, and Natural Resources Minister David Morse. Everyone was surprised and very pleased with the announcement made by Minister Morse that the province would work with MICA to purchase both Backmans and Coveys Islands as Crown land for Nova Scotians.
